Toronto Island Airport

I vote for responsible growth. The Airport and park already coexist well. With investment and adherence to government regulations, we have the opportunity to improve noise, air and water pollution.

Land Transfer Tax

I vote to reduce this tax in stages. We need to find better ways to increase revenue for our city. This tax will hurt house buying power and the vertical businesses associated with it.

ward 28 Daniel Patel

Subways, LRT & Bike Lanes

We need to finalize & invest in a plan that will provide new kilometers of transit every year - with focus on bike lanes and tracks. I support the proposed SmartTrack transit plan because it helps ward 28 residents.

Road Tolls

Toronto is an exciting and vibrant city. We must encourage people to visit our ward's amenities.  Easy access to the city's downtown core is critical and we need to understand impact before we can pursue a program of this nature.

Council Term Limits

More than 50% of current councillors have been in power over 12 years. We need vision, new ideas and renewed energy at City Hall. I vote for a 2 term maximum.

Privatization of Services

I vote for initiatives that save the taxpayers' money - with the intent to get similar or better services for competitive rates. It will also improve the overall bidding process in a fair and equitable way.

Scarborough Subway

Connecting people to our city is key. However, the indescision at City Hall has directly impacted our ability to progress.  I support the 7 stop LRT proposal, instead of the 3 stop subway line that will impact taxpayers substantially in the future.

Ranked and Online Ballots

We need to improve the voting process. Ranked voting provides a more accurate representation of who the residents of ward 28 elected. Online voting will also simplify the voting process, saving voters time and money.

MAKE WARD 28 A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE

It's critical for our ward to flourish. With Toronto Island , St. Lawrence area, Cabbagetown, The Distillery District, Queen's Quay and Bloor Street... all within our borders, it's my mission to ensure that we get the appropriate representation for ongoing growth and momentum.

#1

TORONTO IS THE BEST CITY IN THE WORLD

We live in the heart of one of the most desireable cities in the world. We need to take care of it. Torontonians are very proud of being part of the greater picture of what makes up Canada. Let's all work together and continue making our communities great. We have landmarks in our ward and we need to feature them.

COMMUNITY AND NETWORKS

We have a wide variety of flourishing businesses, talent and resources in our ward. We need to support our local community and feature our capabilities across Toronto. Every service brings about options for our residents. Community events such as street festivals and fundraisers are catalysts for bringing the city together. We also have Community Centres and service providers that offer services to help us both from an individual and business perspective.  I believe that collaboration and supporting local networks are key for growth and provide us with a collective voice.

COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS

Being able to identify, prioritize and communicate the needs of our ward is key.  As a local entrepreneur, business owner and Doctor, I've developed my keen ability to listen, take action and make growth happen. Collaborating with our surrounding wards, community members, and businesses is key to bring about change. It's extremely important to be transparent and communicate the vision for everyone to understand the needs for our ward. I will ensure that your voice is heard.

PUBLIC TRANSIT

With Torontonians making a significant amount of  transit trips per capita in Canada, being able to efficiently travel across the city is key. Subways, light rail trains (LRT) and bus rapid transit (BRT) are crucial to the success of expanding accessibility across the city. It also directly relates to the improvement of traffic congestion that's building due to expansion and growth. LRTs and BRTs are ideal transit options to increase the rate of transit expansion in our city.

CONDOS AND INFRASTRUCTURE

With ongoing expansion of residential space in the core of our ward, our landscape in Toronto has dramatically changed and is in constant development. It's is a fine balance between creating beautiful communities and having the infrastructure to support it. With many projects continuously be approved within our ward, future planning is key to be succussful in creating a sustainable and flourishing environment.

CONSTRUCTION AND TRAFFIC

Construction and infrastructure maintenance is a regular occurance when living in the city. As inconvenient as it can be, overall it provides an opportunity for betterment for our ward.  That said, I believe that we need to monitor and understand the impact to residents to ensure that accommodations are considered when construction is underway.

PARKLAND AND PUBLIC SPACES

Toronto, when seen from above is a vast network of treelines and trails for everyone to enjoy. Parks, Toronto Island and recreational spaces provide us with a sense of community and offer a place for our ward to unite. Public spaces are crucial for the vibrancy of our ward. If well planned and well maintained, open spaces can be utilized in a variety of ways to bring about a feeling of connectedness.

MODERN VS HERITAGE

Revitalization of ward 28 has been at an incredible pace. It's part of our duty to preserve historic buildings within our community. Whether it's through reuse or restoration for some of the oldest building in Toronto, these investment projects exemplify the diversity and eclectic style of our communities. As modern architecture continues to blossom in pockets throughout the ward, the zoning policies and protection of our community is important to ensure that we're building for the future.

BIKES, CARS AND PEDESTRIANS

Along with public transit vehicles, there are many ways people need to get around the city and share our roads. Being an occasional driver, I have learned to be consciencious of my fellow commuters. Bike lanes are necessary in certain areas, pedestrian friendly and even no car zones are critical to making our city more enjoyable for all. I believe that we require improved signage so that it sharing the road is part of our foundation. We need to continue to expand our programs to ensure that people can travel in a safe and efficient manner.

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

Toronto is built on the reputation of having a diverse and enclusive environment and ward 28 exemplifies this.  We have diverse neighbourhoods filled a mixture of age, nationality, sexual orientation and, income. This is our strength. With it comes a variety of needs and priorities. It's crucial that all voices are heard. As Councillor, I will ensure that you voice is heard and that you're priorities are recognized.  I have seen a lot of passion from our community and I believe that together, we can continue to make change happen.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING

Being in Healthcare  for almost 20 years and treating thousands of patients, my passion for the health of our community is on my radar. It's important to have the right and much needed services available to the residents of this ward. Whether it's local healthcare practitioners and clinics or nutritional services at a community centre -- Health services are important for the wellbeing of our ward. Health education for schools and residents is a great starting point to getting the message of a healthy lifestyle at the grassroots.

What matters most...the people of Toronto.
